History

Moog FCS develops and markets advanced electro-mechanical and hydraulic-mechanical control systems in order to provide precise force-, position- or acceleration characteristics relevant to specific customer needs. Moog FCS has three product lines: Simulator Testing, Testing Systems and Robotics and has installed over 700 systems at 150 customers on a worldwide basis.

Moog FCS originated under the name Fokker Control Systems in the late 1970’s by applying Fokker Aircraft’s expertise in the field of control systems in challenging ground based applications. The first product line was Control Loading equipment used in flight simulators to replicate the forces that act on the flight controls in a real aircraft. Moog FCS revolutionized the simulation industry with a unique force loop control technology and is market leader in this field, having supplied hundreds of systems worldwide

In 1990, the same control systems technology was used to provide aircraft, train, automotive and naval simulators with high fidelity Motion Cueing Systems. Initially, Moog FCS developed high performance six Degree of Freedom control software and electronics to accurately control the six actuators of a so-called Hexapod (also Stewart platform) that is used to generate the accelerations that a pilot or driver experiences during the flight or ride of his aircraft or vehicle.

A few years later Moog FCS successfully developed electric actuation technology to replace the hydraulic actuators in such a motion system. The same technology used in these systems was applied to develop products for the aerospace test market. The products are used as tools to test the characteristics of aerospace structures and systems (e.g. wings, landing gear). Within a few years, Moog FCS became market leader in Europe.

In 2001, the decision was taken to enter the Automotive Market. Moog FCS has introduced Hexapod technology and a new unique control philosophy to the Automotive Industry.

Since Moog FCS’s introduction as The Turn-Key Solution Supplier into the automotive industry, it has seen a huge amount of interest in its company, technology and organization. Over recent years, Moog FCS has executed many challenging projects with customers such as DaimlerChrysler, BMW, Volkswagen, Johnson Controls, Continental, IAV and others.
