VOLKSWAGEN ONCE AGAIN SELECTS Moog FCS AUTOMOTIVE FOR THE STATE-OF-THE-ART SUSPENSION TEST RIG

July, 2005 – Moog FCS, the Netherlands’ based provider of high-performance automotive test equipment announced contracts to provide a second Suspension Module Test Rig with Volkswagen. Where the previous order was awarded by Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany, the latest order has been placed by Braunschweig, a Volkswagen production plant for axles. Volkswagen has again shown great enthusiasm for the 6-DOF Hexapod technology and is thrilled about the flexibility and attitude of Moog FCS towards completing the job.

The 16-channel test rig includes two spindle coupled Moog FCS’ hexapods complete with steer, torques and moments to allow for a full range of steer motion combined with six degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) vehicle suspension events. This combination is unparalleled in the testing industry consolidating separate test rigs and collapsing sequential and parallel testing efforts into a more comprehensive, single test approach that can accommodate a wide variety of vehicle/suspension configurations and vehicle track widths.

The Moog FCS Suspension Test Rig employs FasTEST software, allowing the user to easily set-up, execute and analyze some of the most sophisticated tests through an easy-to-use user-interface. FasTEST has been developed by Moog FCS in cooperation with several automotive customers and offers a full application suite for the automotive testing market, featuring a revolutionary iteration strategy and unique time saving features, as well as sophisticated fatigue analysis and vibration control software.

The test equipment also features Moog FCS’ unique closed loop force control and unmatched safety concepts to protect the users and ensure the integrity of the structure under test conditions.  The unique combination of Moog FCS’ leading edge technologies enables the automotive community the most accurate and severe suspension testing simulation environment available for product development, design, modeling and analysis.

Moog FCS will showcase a wide variety of their simulation and testing technologies and experts at the 2005 Automotive Testing Expo in Novi, MI USA on October 26-28.
